Characters

I've uploaded a script and given a brief summation of the film I aim to produce, but I've not said much about the characters yet. Since they're mentioned in the script and appearing in my test videos, I feel I should fill you in a bit. As it stands, there are three characters - Elwood, Trooper (both animated) and myself (live action). Elwood is a character I first drew back in... 2001 or 2002 I believe, and as since become the title character in a comic strip I draw. Trooper is the main character of my undergraduate film, though she started as a character in a long-form comic that's currently simmering on the back boiler. As I work on other projects I often end up neglecting my more personal projects, such as these comics, and that is what has fuelled the story in my film.

Elwood in the Foyer

Another test of matching 2D with live action. I got a bit more advanced with shadow/reflection than the previous test and added some masks to have the 2D elements behind practical ones. The match moving is still a little off, but I think this could be fixed with clear tracking markers and steadier footage. I don't intend to have such wobbly hand-held shots in the film.

With the assessment date rapidly approaching and two other projects on the go I didn't have time to do any animation specifically for this, so I borrowed this walk cycle from a cartoon I did years ago. So don't judge it harshly. The feet don't make good contact with the ground and it could do with being on 1s instead of 2s to better mix with the live action, but it served the purposes of this experiment.

Script

I've added the current version of the script for my film. It's early days so it's likely to change in the near future, but feel free to comment on what you think so far. Read it here »
